Highland Volunteer Fire Department Business Meeting Minutes February 2, 2010 Meeting called to order: Chief Ron Cairns at 1850 Attending members: Ron, Marv, Justine, Melanie, Kally, Dan, Jake, and Dawn. Motion to accept January’s minutes by Marv and Mel. FIRE/EMS REPORT: Vehicle Fire next to structure- Lake Nebagamon for mutual aid. EMS two calls- Barnes Ambulance Service mutual aid with Gold Cross intercept. CORRESPONDENCE: •Arrowhead EMS Association EMR recert reimbursement application •WITC letter of recognition submitted •Memorial Blood Center- Firewise Fun Day •Registrations due for WITC- EMR’s and Ice Rescue Training TREASURER’S REPORT: •Marvin updated members on the budget items for HVFD. •Barnes Ambulance Service=$4, 000 •Chief’s Salary and per diem expenses. •Expenses off the top of budget that leave us with a remaining budget of $15,146.35 •New Treasurer’s Report format implemented. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report made by Kally and Jake. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Registrations due for ICE RESCUE in FEBRUARY!!! REGISTRATION DUE FOR WITC FIRST RESPONDER RENEWAL IN MARCH!!! FIRE ASSOCIATION MEETING: Marv and Ron attended. •Vista Star on June 11th-banquet . FEBRUARY 2, 2010 PAGE 1 OF 3 •$100 from each department for Be Somebody Campaign on May 21st. Highland VFD will be setting up for Be Somebody at the Fire Hall. •Placque for next department will be named in June at the Vista Star Banquet. •$1000 First Responder Grant will be notified by e-mail when the application comes out. •Pages to departments need to switch radios off of DGTAC for member communications without congesting the radio air. We can hear the main wave of radio communications but they don’t hear our trnasmissions. •Next year new FEMA grant proposal for communication equipment due to the radio requirement changes. •Departments need to communicate to each other equipment needed for mutual aid. •HAZMAT 24 hour requirements for Fire I. COMMITTEE REPORTS GRANT COMMITTEE: • PPE Grant to be distributed via PPE equipment in March 2010. • FIREWISE Grant approved for $1250 • FEMA Grant to be proposed for next year communication equipment. • Polaris ATV Grant completed by Ron and submitted on line application. • East Central Energy Grant- Ice Rescue mustang and Darley Low Angle Package. OLD BUSINESS FIREWISE FUN DAY June 12th, 2010 •Grant $1250 to help cover cost of TV- possible grant through WalMart. •Marv will be contacting each VFD for their participation. •Flyer made by Marv- tentative attendees •Donors for food and pop. •Banners to be donated. •Committees will be formed among members and residents. •Grandview has dunk tank- need celebrities. •4-H •Boy Scouts for parking and paper clean-up detail. •Ken Wilk will organize grounds. JANUARY 5, 2010 PAGE 2 OF 3 NEW BUSINESS •BRUSH TRUCK- dules replaced with 3900 lbs springs. •E-bay or Craigs List will be used to sell the old rims. •Need fenders and rim covers. •DNR Grant for Wildland Gear - equipment approval given- need sizes for shirts and pants. •Cable Conference payment covered. Need to cancel by MARCH 1st to get refund!! •Members reminded to contact Dawn with their cancellations if unable to attend by March 1st or member is responsible for $80/day cost as noted in By-Laws. •New cones in tender and pumper for road marking during incidents- 4 in each truck- 2 in front and 2 in back of each vehicle. •KALLY MELIN PASSED SAFETY OFFICER TEST!!!!! •Nominations for Fire Chief position is up for vote next month and position will be assumed in April. •George Kornstad requested HVFD hold a demonstration at Bouregard Lake on Memorial Day weekend. Pump and flow with apparatus. Need members to participate. •EMS would like to pursue the King airway with Dr. Wesley- Gold Cross Dr. Schrock declined. •Glucose meter was donated to HVFD by Barnes Ambulance Service. Dawn will notify state regarding protocal adopting of the meter. Wesley approval? •WIESA- scholarship notice and application. •Reviewed membership status - Highland VFD recognized as Melanie’s home department. Motion to adjourn meeting by Melanie an Marv at 2045. Pumper Operator Training on February 16th. Mock EMS training to be included with Ice Rescue Training on February 27th 8-5pm. Highland VFD will provide lunch.
