February 25, 2008 Special Town Meeting
February 25, 2008 Special Town Board Meeting Chairperson Janice Johnson called the meeting to order. Roll call was taken and all board members were present. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Janice opened up the meeting to public questions and comments regarding the bids received for the new fire truck. Much discussion followed. Both trucks are running now. John Prohaska feels that if his budget needs to be cut, that is a board decision and should come from them. Janice read a statement that she is against pursuing purchasing a truck due to the cost. Scott is against purchasing a new truck at this time due to the cost. He would like to consider a used truck. Sherrie stated that something should be done quickly as it is a safety issue and also noted that board members could be liable if an accident occurs. John read a statement stressing his and the other fire department member’s commitment to the fire department and the importance of taking the necessary safety measures. The truck is unreliable and impossible to get parts for. Janice made a motion to have Gary Amys, Ron Cairns, Andy Moss, and John Prohaska look at prices of used trucks and report to the board at the March meeting. Sherrie seconded the motion. Motion carried. The board would then possibly set a spending amount at the March board meeting to act on purchasing a used truck when one becomes available that meets the needs of the fire department for the amount specified. This would enable a truck to be purchased without having to call a special board meeting and miss the opportunity to purchase a used truck at a lower cost. Scott made a motion to reject all bids received. Sherrie seconded the motion and motion carried. Janice made a motion not to pursue purchasing a new fire truck. Scott seconded the motion. Sherrie opposed the motion. Motion carried. Sherrie made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Scott seconded the motion. Motion carried.
