January 8, 2008 Fire Department Meeting
HIGHLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING MINUTES January 8, 2008 Members present: John Prohaska, Sherrie Craft, Deanna Welhaven, Ron Cairns, Marvin Landreth, Ken Wilk, Jake Melin and Dawn Ross. 6:38 the meeting was called to order by Chief John Prohaska. Minutes from the last meeting were given to members. Motion to accept minutes made by Ken and seconded by Marvin. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report was given. Motion to accept the report made by Marvin and seconded By Ken. Motion carried. Correspondence: A Thank You card from the O’Connell family was read and a donation from their family was given to the fire department. Fire Association Meetings: None Committee Report: Bingo – Attendance has been down. We had 11 people at the games. We played 10 games for half payout and then played 5 extra games for a cost of $5 with the payout at half of what was taken in for the extra games. That way we kept the people happy. We need to look into a raffle license for some of the larger items that are donated to us. Schedule for the rest of the month was decided on. There was a truck meeting last Thursday. It was decided to go with a new chassis and the bid specs will be provided by John. Wally Moss will be looking at our engine to see if he thinks that it leaks too much. Also if he thinks there are any repairs that need to be done on it. This was requested by Janice. Ron suggested having a DOT inspection done on the engine. At the Town Board meeting on the 14th it would be nice to have some of the members present to talk about what is needed in a truck. The transmission line on the engine has been repaired and the auto eject for the air is installed. Fire/EMS Report: 1-Mutual aid fire for Barnes, Cancelled. 1-Mutual aid ice rescue for Barnes. Old Business: The holiday party was cancelled and we need a new date. It was decided to have the party Feb. 5th at 6:30 at the Gopher Hole. Members voted to pay for the party with the fundraiser money. John will check with Sharon’s Café about cost for having the meal catered. The First Responder Refresher is coming up. Registration forms were given to members. John will deliver them to WITC for everyone. New Business: John has been working on our infectious control plan. He contacted St. Mary’s and St. Luke’s but they had no idea what was in place for us. If anything happens contact Sherrie as she is the Infectious Control Office and Safety Officer. Always wear your PPE. This includes masks and eye protection. Conference info is in. Get the registration filled out and faxed to WITC. John would like lists for each vehicle and what is needed to make them complete. The rescue needs to be built from the ground up. The air compressor is not working. John is looking into getting a new one. Dawn suggested looking into having a fundraiser. Maybe have Gopher Hole host it. Call it the Fire Escape. Sign up teams from other departments to compete in different games. Also maybe have a marathon in 2009. Motion made by Marvin and seconded by Ron to adjourn. Motion carried. Training will be Tuesday, January 15, 2008 @ 6:30pm at the fire hall. Next Meeting will be Tuesday, February 5, 2008 @ 6:30pm at the fire hall.
