July 1, 2008 Fire Department Meeting
HIGHLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING MINUTES July 1, 2008 Members present: Todd Carlson, Sherrie Craft, Ron Cairns, Jessica Carlson, Marvin Landreth, Ken Wilk, Dawn Ross and Kally Ross. 6:35 pm the meeting was called to order by Chief Todd Carlson. Tony Sullivan from Norwood Golf talked about our golf tournament to be held August 24th at his course. It was decided that a 5 person scramble works the best. There will be games at different locations on the course for a small fee. This will give the teams a chance to win more and provide more income for the department. Our members will be needed to work at sign in, games, food and drink cart. Kathy Emmons has a list of businesses to contact for door prizes. The beer and soft drink companies will provide posters and fliers free of charge to promote the event. Kathy will be placing ads in the newspapers. There will also be radio advertising. Discussion was held about raffles and what is needed to have them. We need to come up with a name for the tournament. After the golfing is finished, there will be a potluck dinner, drawing for prizes and entertainment at the Gopher Hole Lounge. Kathy and Tony were thanked for all of there time and help in getting the tournament arranged. Minutes were given to the members. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Kally/Ron. (MC) Treasurer’s report was given. A motion to accept the report was made by Marvin/Kally. (MC) Fire Association Meetings: Douglas County – Oakland. Todd attended the meeting and reported that most of the discussion was about fireworks and whose responsibility it was to control their use. Fire/EMS Report: 3 Medical – 1 Chest pain, 1 lift assist and 1 possible heart. Old Business: Discussion was held about the 4th of July Parades. We will meet here at the hall at 10am and leave for Barnes at 10:30. Lake Nebagamon lineup is at 3pm. Todd explained what the new truck captains are responsible for. Assignments are: Kally – Rescue, Brush Truck – Matt, Tanker – Marvin and Engine – Mike. Since Mike isn’t here tonight, Todd will talk to him to see if he wants the position. A proposal was written By Todd and Tom for the integration of our EMS into Barnes. Dawn would like to hold a special meeting to discuss the pros and cons of such an action. Todd will arrange a meeting. The DNR Grant has been submitted. We have applied for 14 pair of wild land boots, a Thermogel eductor, 2 pails of Thermogel, 4 Bladder bags, hand tools and 1 digital portable radio. Todd is in the process of applying for the OJA grant for digital radios. Dawn has been looking for available grants that we may be eligible for. She has applied for a Wausau Paper grant for a 6 wheel ATV. Discussion was held on other grants such as East Central Energy, BNSF and Wal-Mart. Members were asked to keep their long and short term goal worksheets until the next meeting. Steve Kelsey has a building to burn. Todd and Ron will look into this and obtain the necessary permits. The hallway is finished. Todd is doing the drywall mudding. Everyone is invited to help. New Business: The PASS Alarms are all working. Todd would like everyone to take one and use it with your wild land gear. They can also be used for search and rescue. Remember to turn them on. Marvin has a new computer program for tracking the maintenance done on all of the trucks. It can also generate an inventory report. Todd would like to possibly hold a Rendezvous here in Highland. The town does not have an event so he would like to get the town interested in this project. Members were asked their opinion about this idea. The members agreed that it was a good idea and so Todd will present the idea to the town board at their July 14th meeting. A committee was formed for the Rendezvous consisting of: Todd, Sherrie, Matt, Marvin and Dawn. New business from the floor: NONE A motion to adjourn was made by Kally/Dawn.
