July 9, 2008 Committee Meeting
Meeting called to order by Willard @ 7:00 Public notice of meeting was posted Minutes were read and approved Agenda reviewed No sign-ups from public input sign-up sheet Discussion on senior housing continued and committee choose not to include it in our plan due to the lack of services available to seniors and the need for senior housing is met by surrounding communities that offer services needed. Discussion on the Housing continued and was decided to include the “Northwoods Value” as is. It the value of the committee to keep this as a characteristic of Highland. Mobile home/manufactured home was discussed and a concern for the uncontrolled growth/spread and that the permitting process was through the Douglas County. Willard will contact Sue to write the draft for Housing for our next meeting. Paper company properties discussed. Their property is for public use, and how this might change due to the contracts they have with Douglas County. Ron had contacted Rob Kudick (sp?) and it was suggested to contact a former D.N.R. employee, Pat Shellar(sp.?) from Solon Springs. Willard will make this contact for the next meeting. Discussion of an industrial park location. Solon Springs and Barnes have a site. Possible site for Highland would be located on the 40 acres at the corner of Hwy. A&27, near the large propane storage tank. This is private property at this time. More discussion at next meeting. Hobby farms, wind tunnels, tower sites were also discussed. Ron would contact Keith Kessler on proper site locations for the next meeting. Bob will check on roads for the next meeting. A short discussion on zoning and thought that personal from Douglas County should attend a meeting to help with that process.. Meeting change to get through this process on the time line given to us from NWRP will be on July 23rd @ 6:00 @ the Highland Town Hall. Willard will contact Anne with the change. The committee will meet every first and third Wednesday of the month. Meeting adjourned @ 8:45.
