HIGHLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING MINUTES May 5, 2009 Members present: Ron Cairns, Ken Wilk, Marvin Landreth, Jake Melin, Kally Ross, Justine Ross, Don Ronkainen, Jessica Carlson, Ron Smith, Mike Ross, Sherrie Craft, Todd Carlson, Deanna Hughes, Dawn Ross, Jeremy Francisco Meeting Meeting called to order at 6:40 pm. Secretary's report approved. Sherrie Craft/Ron Smith M/S/C No Treasurer's report was submitted. Mike Ross requested a correction on the previous months meeting minutes: stating: Procedures need to be in place regarding purchases and dispersments pending from Annie Moss, Town Clerk Correspondence: Dawn Ross stated that Information regarding the Swine Flue potential for EMS personnel is posted on the Bulletin Board. Douglas Co. Fire Association Meetings: (meets every 3rd Monday) Todd Carlson and Sherrie Craft attended: “Be Somebody” campaign was discussed and they reiterated the campaign was on May 14th at Brule starting at 3:15pm. Todd indicated that the fire apparatus displayed at Brule would be moved to the Gopher Hole Lounge to complete the campaign for Highland VFD. A Chili Recipe Contest was to be held in conjunction with the “Be Somebody” campaign at the Gopher Hole Lounge. Dawn Ross discussed a correction on the “Be Somebody” campaign advertising. Fire/EMS Report: Fire/EMS Report: There was a Wildland/Resident Fire on Minnesung Road. Incident command was turned over to Highland from the DNR on arrival of Highland apparatus, stated by Chief Carlson. An ATV accident occurred East of HWY 27. Communication problems were prevalent. Discussion on the communications issues ensued and Chief Carlson played back the recording of the incident. Committee Reports: Grant committee: A walmart grant was to be resubmitted: The grant was for 2 medical bags. FEMA grant is ready for review. Grant is requesting $22,000 for new equipment on the new engine. Chief Carlson is reviewing. DNR grant is completed and reimbursed $1,800 is in the equipment budget. Truck committee: No news on the completion time of the new Engine. The “Got Water” decal and the air horn was to be delivered and installed on May 13. Fund Raising Committee: The Golf Outing Scramble is set for August 9th. It was suggested that a Gun and Bow raffle be done in conjunction with the outing. Door prize soliciting should be started in June. Old Business: Raffle License is all in order and may now be used. The D.Co. Fire Ass'n banquet tickets are written to those that are going to the banquet. The “Be Somebody” runners will be running from Brule to Lake Nebagamon and back on the afternoon of May 14th. Fill the Boot campaign for Muscular Dystrophy will be done at Ole's Country Store in Lake Nebagamon on June 14th. Help is requested to achieve that goal. The Murray Lake “Dry Hydrant” is not functioning and needs repair or possibly be relocated to Sand Lake a short distance away. New Business: Wisconsin Firefighter's Ass'n membership was discussed: All qualifiers need to fill out the Ass'n's form and submit it to the Chief. The “Adopt-a-highway” from Nebagamon to Fire Hall is pending approval by the County Hwy Dept. Next training session will be a “Pump & Dump” per Chief Carlson. An EMS contract with Barnes was discussed: With the eventual disappearance of the Gold Cross ambulance service it was thought that Highland TWP should request Barnes ambulance service be extended to all of Highland TWP. A roll call vote was taken. Majority approved the concept/idea. Sherrie Craft/Kally Ross M/S Wildland gear needed is a helmet and a few shirts. Approximate cost under $200. The Dry Hydrant repair at Murray Lake was suggested to be around $90. Dawn Ross mentioned that a collective/group WITC CPR class combined with Bennett VFD would be $13.70 per person. Dawn Ross mentioned that renting the HIPPA DVD from Barnes VFD would be a great way to complete that mandatory requirement. Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn: Motion to adjourn by Ron Cairns.
