VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

SPRING PRIMARY

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered to vote in order to receive an absentee ballot. Proof of identification must be provided before an absentee ballot may be issued.

You must make a request for an absentee ballot in writing.

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the election.  You may also submit a written request in the form of a letter, or you may apply for an absentee ballot online at MyVote.wi.gov.  Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature. You may make application for an absentee ballot by mail, email, fax, in person or at MyVote.wi.gov.

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is: Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Note: Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact your municipal clerk regarding deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.

The first date to vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office:     Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

The last day to vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office:       Friday, February 12, 2021.

No in-person absentee voting may occur on the day before the election.

The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the proper polling place or counting location before the polls close on February 16, 2021.  Any ballots received after the polls close will not be counted.

You may request and vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office, or other specified location, during the days and hours listed below for casting an absentee ballot in person.

Obituary – Charles John Khalar

Obituary

Charles John Khalar, 74, of Lake Nebagamon, WI, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.

Charles was born on September 13, 1946, in Superior, WI, to Melvin and Mary (Hora) Khalar.  He worked road maintenance, for the Town of Highland, WI, for 51 years.  It was said that he could frost a cake with a grader.  He also farmed on the family homestead.  Charles married Donna Bornholdt on June 13, 1986, in Lake Nebagamon, WI.  He loved; hunting and fishing, watching westerns, and smoking fish.

Charles is survived by: his wife, Donna, one daughter, Cindy (Chad) Spinner, one son, Charles “Scott” (Cathy) Khalar, step-children; Jeffrey, Laura, and Thomas, grandchildren, Michael and Julianna Khalar, and several step-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by; his parents, and one brother, George.

A private family service was held, due to the current COVID 19 restrictions.  A public committal service was held on Tuesday, January 12, at 12:30 PM at Highland Cemetery in Highland Township.  Arrangements were entrusted to Solon Springs Funeral Home, in Solon Springs, WI.  Online condolences may be left for Charles’ family at www.bratley-nelsonchapels.com.


Regular Town Board Meeting Rescheduled

The January Regular Town Board Meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Highland Town Hall.  The board will meet at 6:30 to review correspondence and disbursements.  A full agenda will be posted.


Special Town Board Meeting

There will be a Special Town Board Meeting on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. at the Highland Town Hall.  The Board will be going into closed session to discuss personnel issues.  The board anticipates going back into open session to possibly act on the following:  hiring an equipment operator and setting wages for equipment operators.

The Polling Place will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 8:00 p.m.
