Absentee Voting

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

APRIL 2, 2019

GENERAL ELECTION

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to vote for at least 10 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered to vote in order to receive an absentee ballot. Proof of identification must be provided before an absentee ballot may be issued.

You must make a request for an absentee ballot in writing.

Contact your municipal clerk and request that an application for an absentee ballot be sent to you for the primary or general election or both. You may also submit a written request in the form of a letter. Your written request must list your voting address within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address where the absentee ballot should be sent, if different, and your signature. You may make application for an absentee ballot by mail or in person.

The deadline for making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail is: Thursday, March 28, 2019.

Note: Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you, contact your municipal clerk regarding deadlines for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot.

Friday, March 29, 2019.

No in-person absentee voting may occur on the day before the election.

The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the proper polling place or counting location before the polls close on April 2, 2019.. Any ballots received after the polls close will not be counted.

You may request and vote an absentee ballot in the clerk’s office, or other specified location, during the days and hours listed below for casting an absentee ballot in person.

Regular Town Board Meeting

at the Highland Town Hall.  An Agenda will be posted.


Seasonal Worker Needed

The Town of Highland is seeking applicants for a full time seasonal General Maintenance Worker.  This position is 40 hours per week (extra hours if needed).  The tentative season is June July and August but can be adjusted for availability.  Duties to include (but are not limited to) mowing, equipment use (chain saw, weed wacker, etc.) and trimming.  This position reports to the Equipment Operator.

A valid drivers license and current DOT medical card is required.  Persons 18 and over are preferred.  Also, experience with equipment is preferred.  A pre-employment drug test will be required.  Wage to be based on experience ($14 – $18 per hour)

Rink Rally

The Rink Rally will be held on Sunday, February 17th from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
All are welcome. Come and join us for some skating, sliding, barbecue and much more!


Town Plan Commission Meeting

The Town Plan Commission will meet on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Highland Town Hall.  Items for discussion and recommendation to the town board are the Conditional Use Request for an Accessory Building at Degermen Field and an amendment to the Douglas County Zoning Ordinance.

At the General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 6,  2018 in the Town of Highland, the following polling place location will be used:

The Polling Place will open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 8:00 p.m.
